Statistical Techniques for Data Analysis

Status : Elective Pre-requisite : MGTE 11023 Co-requisite : None


On completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Identify appropriate statistical methodologies that could be used  in variety of data analysis.
  • Apply statistical techniques to  analyse a wide range of practical problems.
  • Employ the statistical software packages in data analysis and make effective statistical inferences.

Inferential Statistics: Point and interval estimation, Small and large samples; Sampling techniques: Random, systematic, stratified and cluster sampling; General Statistical Hypothesis testing.
Statistical tests:  Independent and paired samples t-test, One-way and two-way ANOVA, Regression analysis, residual analysis, Parametric and nonparametric tests: Chi square test.
Time Series Analysis: Moving averages, Trend and seasonal fluctuations.

Lectures, Computer practical sessions, Presentations.
Continuous assessments and end of course examination.
