Audience: Level 01 undergraduates following the B.Sc. degree in biological/physical sciences of the Faculty of Science

 

Introduction

The fresh undergraduates who join the university today are the future leaders of the country. A notable characteristic of the world’s leaders is that they are experts at self-management. Self-management refers to the ability of an individual to regulate their emotions and resulting behaviors in ways that society considers acceptable[1]. Appropriate self-management can help students perform better both in the university as well as on the job once they are graduated. Aligned with the socio-emotional skills specified in the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF), this course equips students with necessary non-technical skills, attitudes and mindset which help them to live a better social, academic and professional life.

Course Objectives

This course is designed and delivered with the objectives of;

  • directing students to engage in active learning towards a vision on life
  • Supporting students to enjoy a balanced and successful academic and social life
  • Implanting the seeds of non-technical skills to become a more employable graduate
  • Producing more responsible and self-aware leaders

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the students shall be able to;

  • have a clear vision on life
  • take leadership in delivering the tasks assigned
  • think innovatively and critically to solve problems
  • have a positive attitude and a good set of values
  • be responsible in his/her actions

Delivery

This module will be delivered as classroom discussions, group activities, field visits and seminars[2].

 

Selection

50 participants will be selected from the students following the level 01 of B.Sc. degree in physical or biological sciences in the Faculty of Science, based on their expression of interest and a subsequent screening test. The selection criteria will be set with the objective of having the right audience on board with required diversity. The selection panel’s decision will be the final decision on the selection.

 

Evaluation

The participants will be evaluated based on their contribution to the activities, personal diary and attendance

 

Award

A completion certificate will be offered by the faculty upon successful completion
